Description: One Hundred Ten■Walter McElvainHoward YoungJoe Isbell, CaptainThe B. H. 8. Basketball team this yearwas not a crowning success in the senseof winning its games, but in the light thatthe boys really tried hard to come out thevictor, none were their master. The boyswere one of the scrappiest teams in thestate, and win or lose they always gave agood account of themselves in that line. This year Mr. Phillips, our new basketball coach and athletic director, was handicapped by a practically green squad. Page,Isbell, Kenney, and Fiscus, the latter unable to play the first semester due to ineligibility, were the only old men left fromlast year. Coach Phillips lived up to hisfine reputation as a coach, and whipped arather crude group of boys into somethingthat resembled a basketball team. Theteam and the supporters all admire theearnest effort and the time he put in withthe boys but as fate would have it, theschedule was so arranged and with suchteams that it was next to impossible towin. The Panthers used both the slow-setstyle, and the fast-breaking type of playand at times showed perfect execution ofboth, but the men had not the experienceto compete with the finely finished opponents that they were scheduled to meet. The season started off with a defeat bythe strong Logansport team from thenorth, to the tune of 61-18. They playeda fast breaking and quick passing game, hitting a great many shots from far outon the floor. The home team was weak intheir defense and could not work theirplays through the strong guarding of thevisitors. The game was later forfeited toBloomington.
