Henry MartinLawrence GoodmanFrank Talbotpreparation for the game with Washingtonon the 14th of September. The first game was played at Indianapolis against Washington High School, andproved to be the only barrier to a perfectrecord. The final score was 7-6 in favorof the Indianapolis boys, yet the defeatserved as a warning that a team may notlive upon its last years record, and showed how the new men worked under fire. The results were not at all unsatisfactory, for many of those given a chance showedreal possibilities for the future. Victorywas nearly in the grasp of the Purple, when a long forward pass into the endzone missed being completed by about sixinches just as the gun was fired. The home season opened the followingweek with a sterling victory over BillMosss huskie team from Bloomfield. Thehome team was out-weighed but not outfought and won a 13-0 victory over theiropponents. The game was played on thereserve field of the University and waswitnessed by a fine turnout. The rootingsection stimulated the players, while theline men made a fine defensive stand on thegoal line and in the second half openedholes for the local backs to rush throughand score the two well earned touchdowns.A great deal of the gaining was made byoff-tackle drives by Woodruff and Page. |
