Description: Henry KenneyHarlan Page, CaptainJohn WoodburnThe past year saw the greatest footballteam in Bloomingtons history, carryingon the fine record of the 1928 team. ThePurple and WThite smashed their waythrough the season, defeating some of theoutstanding teams in the state. Theymade a record of 9 clean-cut victories andone defeat by the margin of a single point.A single tie game was played with Kirklin,the only team to defeat last years strongeleven. The boys were not a large teamand were forced to depend upon sheer gritto overcome some of their opponents.Due to the local support of the community the squad was able to start the seasonwith a bang. September first saw the 35football candidates starting in actualtraining down at Camp Bedford. In tendays of hard work the boys were poundedinto physical condition by their most ablecoach, Harold Mumby. In this short timea number of reserve players were developed to fill the vacant places left by thestars who graduated from the winningteam of the previous year. These were:Capt. Hatcher, Coleman, Roberts, andKnight. These men were sadly missed,but several men of this years squadproved to be their equals, if not their betters. Upon returning from camp the squadwas greatly increased by football aspirants who were unable to attend the camp.They were quickly whipped into shape inOne Hundred
