Description: |
THE 1927 GOTHICIn order to start the construction, a certain sum of money had to beguaranteed. The people of Bloomington showed their loyalty in this endeavor by pledging themselves wholeheartedly to the cause. The students and townspeople worked night and day to reach their goal.Bloomington, although having the finest gymnasium in the state, isonly one out of many towns that built gymnasiums last year. A few ofthe others were; Logansport, Vincennes, Washington, and Bedford. One could talk forever on the advantages of a new gym, for it hasmany. The Panthers heretofore, had practiced in a gymnasium only halfas large as the present one, and the effect was telling on the team. Ateam that is used to a small gym is handicapped to a great extent whenforced to play in a large one. Since the movement for building largergyms has started, it is only fair that Bloomington should share the advantages held by the other large schools in the state. The gymnasium isalso very advantageous as considered from the money standpoint. Before this year, many of the games were played in the University Gym.This resulted in a great financial loss, for the school had to divide withthe university, and that cut profits. As it is now, the school gets a hundred per cent profit, because there is no debt incurred, and then theschool will receive the profit that it justly deserves, not only in moneybut also in athletics.WWPage sixty-nine |
