THE 1927 GOTHICr?THE NEW GYMNASIUMThe students of Bloomington High School will long remember theyear 1926, for during that year the New Gymnasium was built. In the spring of 1926, the School Board, composed of Supt. Tirey,Dr. Frank Holland, Roy 0. Pike and Prof. Nicholson, gave the school permission to build a new gymnasium. The contract was let to Charles Pike, and the architect was Mr. Grindle. Mr. Grindle and Mr. Pike deservemuch credit for building a gym second to none in beauty. The gymnasium is situated very beautifully just west of the OldSeminary building and is finished in brick veneer. It has a seating capacity of 4500 and was filled to overflowing the night of the dedication. The major portion of the room capacity is in the balcony, while downstairs there are bleacher seats and just along the edge of the balcony, opera chairs are placed. These are the best seats in the house. Thegymnasium was finished in time for the Bedford-Bloomington game, which was the dedication game. Supt. Tirey had charge of the dedicationservices, and introduced the various speakers on the program. The mostprominent speaker was A. L. Trester, chairman of the I. H. S. A. A. Hegave a very interesting talk and instilled a fine spirit into the crowd. Immediately following the services the game was played. Bedford won athriller by the score of 29-22. Between halves Bs were awarded the oldtime athletes of B. H. S.rfyT^T^ Page sixty-eight |
