SAPPENFIELD,FLOYD, RICHARDSONThe Hi-Y ClubThe purpose of the Hi-Y club is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character.The Freshman Mixer was revived this year and the club feels that themeeting helped much to create a spirit of friendliness among the older andyounger boys of the school. Speeches were made by officers of the club andalso by Mr. Carnahan and Mr. McCaughan. Mr. McCauley led in singing.Charles Holder, Ewing Cox and Joseph Floyd attended the Older BoysConference at Anderson during the Thanksgiving recess. A report of the conference was given by the delegates on their return.The club rendered two services to students by returning a great number oflost books to their owners and by conducting a second hand book sale.The social activities of the club included a number of picnics and parties,among which was a joint Halloween party with the Blue Triangle.In February the club was visited by Mr. R. J. Duke, the Assistant Secretary of the State Y. M. C. A., and he addressed the boys of the school in aspecial convocation.The club lost several of its valued members by graduation, among whomwas Charles Holder, the president. Max Sappenfield, vice-president, assumedthe office but resigned shortly after the beginning of the semester, and he wassucceeded by Lawrence Fulwider. The other officers of the club are: JohnFoley, Secretary, and Rex Bradt, Treasurer. Mr. Charles F. Reedis the sponsor. Members of the advisory board are Mr. James, Mr.Carnahan and Mr. McCaughan.Active members for the first semester appear in the picture.Page Seventy-Two
