Description: |
The 1926 Senior MemorialSince the first senior class graduated from Bloomington High School, ithas been a custom and a tradition for that class to leave some tangible memorialto their Alma Mater. A great many things have been given to the schoolthrough its many years of graduating classes. One of the most notable gifts isthe statue of Winged Victory presented by the class of 1922.The class of 1926 has tried to be just a little bit better and different inevery thing it did: so when it came time to consider our memorial we looked forsomething which would not only be of credit to such a class but also help tobeautify the building and campus of the high school.Early in the year Mr. Earl Murray of the Stone Department, suggested amemorial gateway to be designed, cut, and erected by the boys in his department. It would thus show off to an advantage the senior class and also thework done by the Stone Department. About the first of April it was decidedto accept his proposal and the order for the gateway was made. It is to standabout where the chain crosses the drive at the northeast entrance of the campus. The two posts which will be seven feet eleven inches tall each and two feet eightinches square at the base will be built of brick and concrete faced with planedstone and surmounted with a large ball. Mr. Murray hopes to have the postserected before school closes.JL-.^gyt, |
