Description:	WRESTLINGHurrah!! Bloomington High School Wrestling Team wins the statechampionship. The sport of wrestling has almost been in the backgroundcompared to the older sports, but it looks as if it will become a permanent sportin our High School.This was the second year Bloomington has had a wrestling team. Wrestling was started in Bloomington in 1923 but was not given much recognitionbecause it was a new sport.However this did not slow up the sport any and this year the boys whoworked hard every night with very little, as it seemed, to look forward to, neverfaltered and we know the result.In short they won the state championship which is sponsored and held atIndiana University each year. For this, the team was awarded a beautifulshield of victory; individuals were awarded gold medals, first place; secondplace awards of silver medals were made; and for third place bronze medalswere given.As for the meet itself, the boys covered themselves with glory from startto finish.The day of the state meet Coach Mumby entered Jimmie Barnhili in thehundred pound class, Paul Kerr in the 108 pound class, Captain Keith Hepburn115 pound class, George Brisbane, 125 pound class, Robert Smith, 135pound class, Carl Chitwood 145 pound class, Paul Weathers 155 poundclass, Emerson Gerhart 165 pound class, Estell Rittel 175 pound class andRalph Hunter in the heavyweight class. They scored 56 points and theirclosest contender, Monticello, scored 42.From our team we have captain-elect Kerr, ex-captain Hepburn, Barnhili,Gerhart and Ritter left for next year. We hope and sincerely believe we willwin again next year.The men were awarded B sweaters for their efforts and victories of thisyear.Page One Hundred Nineteen
