CAPTAIN APPLEJACK MINSTRELThe second of the Senior Class minstrels was given the latter part of January. Cleverly desiredscenery, catchy music, and well-coached dancing madethis one of the most enjoyable entertainments evergiven by any Senior Class.The scene was laid on board a pirate vessel andthe curtain rose on a brilliantly dressed chorus ofsea-dogs. The chorus and a solo by John Buchanan furnished a very good opening effect. Twostowaways are found on board who turn out to be our friends Bones Ferguson and Sambo Weaver of Dixieland fame. They carry on a spiritedbadinage until the entrance of the Pirate Girls and Martha Hay. all wonderingwhat had become of Sally. The Mandalay chorus furnished a brilliantfinale for the production.Mr. McCauley and Miss Martin coached the stunt.THE DIXIELAND MINSTRELOn November thirteenth and fourteenth the Senior Class of B. H. S.staged a clever Dixieland minstrel at the Indiana theatre. A record crowdenjoyed the witty bombardment against Mayor Harris and the water situation.Several choruses and songs including the lively Topsy chorus added to themusical side of the program. Bones Ferguson and Sambo Weaver retailedthe jokes, keeping the house in a continual uproar. Jimmy Damrells buckand wing won an encore and the final chorus creditably ended the eveningsentertainment.Lee McCauley directed the musical end of the show and Miss Martincoached the rest.A contest for ticket selling was held and Robert Dillman, the manager ofthe campaign, won first place with over a hundred tickets sold.Page Seventy-seven |
