ANOTHER APPRECIATIONSchool days1 School days!Dear old golden-rule days!Reading and Riring and RithmeticTaught—no, no!Its twelve big years or more since I left my little worldcalled home, and started out in quest of learning. My schooldays have been mostly busy and happy ones. Im very glad ofthe rule which, altho it did not always seem golden, must at leasthave been silver, and the three Rs—why, they are a wonderful foundationon which to build the entire alphabet. An army of instructors have had to do with my education; not all havebeen friendly, but for the most part they have taken a kindly interest in meand have been patient and glad to help me over the difficult places. To thoseFRIENDS I owe a debt. As I look back to the first commencement and thefriendly faces loom up before me. Im thankful for theseloyal, patient ones that have helped to make the closing commencement possible—a commencement which is, after all, abeginning—and because of these outstanding friends, thefuture that stretches out before me will be made easier.To-day, I am a Senior; to-morrow, in the battle of Life,Im only in the primary; but these memories will be cherishedas I travel along the great stretch toward the horizon. The Senior Class of 1925Page Forty-eight |
