Description: THE GOTHIC 24THE GLEE CLUBSOn the evening of March 12, the High School Glee Clubs presented TheMikado. The operas of Gilbert and Sullivan are witty and bright, full ofclever and mirth provoking lines, and the opera did not suffer by the interpretation given by the High School cast. The principal characters were : TheMikado of Japan, Hollace Myers; Nanki-Poo, his son, disguised as a wanderingminstrel, Horace Karsell; Ko-Ko, Lord High Executioner, William Ramsey;Pooh-Bah, Lord High Everything Else, Kenneth Brown; Pish-Tush, a NobleLord, John Buchanan; three sisters, wards of Ko-Ko, Yum-Yum, Grace Hall;Pitti-Sing, Nellie Clark; Peep-bo, Ruth Axtell; Katisha, an elderly lady whowas in love with Nanki-Poo, Katharyn Hoadley.The Glee Club competed in the Fine Arts Week Music Contest at Indianapolis during the first week in May. The Three Springs, a choral recital,was rendered by the girls chorus at that time.The girls chorus includes: Ruth Axtell, Erma Brown, Helen Campbell,Gertrude Chafin, Nellie Clark, Martha Coombs, Rachael Correll, Marjorie Cox,Mildred Curry, Mina Dugger, Wallie Ehrieh, Oneta Farr. Mildred Ferguson,Grace Hall, Opal Hamm, Olive Hillerman, Daisy Hinkle, Katharyn Hoadley,Elizabeth Holland, Alice Prow, Lorena Ramsey, Florence Rogers, NaomiRhorer, Beulah Sare, Lillian Smallwood, Irene Spriggs, Grace Thayer, andAlma Withers.The boys chorus includes: Philip Borland, Charles Denton, EdwardFarmer, Charles Gerhart, Homer Harvey, Charles Holder, Russell Isom, MaxJones, Kenneth Lannam, Wade Lawhead, Julius Moser, Robert Peterson, William Ramsey, Dale Sare, Robin Stump, Charles Teague, Philip Talbott, CarsonVint, and Carl Wampler.Page Sixty-Six
