Hunter, Chitwood, Kerr.Back Bow—Buchanan, Williams, Teague, Brisbane.WRESTLINGThe 1924 Wrestling team, under the leadership of Coach Harold Mumbyand Captain Keith Hepburn, pulled down State honors from a field of strongopponents. Having been unable to schedule any preliminary meets, theyentered the tournament with their strength comparatively unknown. However, since they had received such thorough training from Coach Mumby andAssistant Coach Lehr, followers of the Purple were almost positive of the outcome.Taking five firsts, two seconds, and two thirds, Bloomington piled up a totalof fifty-seven points as against forty-two for Monticello, the closest competitor.Jimmie Barnhill, 100 pounder and Captain Hepburn, both won third places,having lost to the ultimate champs in their weights, in the preliminary bouts.George Brisbane, 125 pounds, and Carl Chitwood, 145 pounds, were awardedsecond ratings after they had lost in the final bouts. Both were defeated bysmall margins. Paul Kerr, 108 pounds, won first after downing his men inspectacular matches. Paul Weathers made short work of his opponents, beingon the mat a total of less than four minutes, winning both bouts, and the championship of 155 pound class, by falls. Estell Ritter, 175 pounds, also wears agold medal as a result of his good work. Ralph Hunter found easy sledding inthe heavy-weight class.
