Description: BHSThe Seasons StoryWith the 1919-1920 State Basketballchampionship belonging to BloomingtonHigh School prospects for a team to de-fend this title seemed very poor whenschool started last fall because of thefact that only two members of the cham-pionship squad returned to school andnew material was very scarce. Turningdown several tempting offers, CliffordWells returned to coach the Purple andWhite squad again. After one months practice the sea-son opened with Sullivan on the localfloor. The showing of the team in de-feating them, 33 to 17, made the localfans optimistic toward the coming sea-son. Coach Wells reduced his squad tonine players. Their inexperience told andthey fell by the score of 30 to 6. They came back into their own, however,by registering victories over Brownsburg and Mitchell. The following week-end Anderson handed the Champs the third defeat of the season. In thisgame the Champs held Anderson scoreless the first twelve minutes of play. The following night Bloomington defeated Technical at Indianapolis. Thencame the first Bedford game of the season. Bedford was the favorite, butCoach Wells turned the tables, making the seventh straight victory over therival aggregaticn by a one-point margin. The following week-end the Champsdowned another rival, Martinsville, evening up matters for the previous de-feat. With a score of 19 to 13 against them at the end of the first half theystaged the old-time comeback that has characterized former Bloomington teamsand swept the Martinsville quintet off their feat, 30 to 24.
