19 GOTHIC 16In forty minutes of fighting, the local aggregation triumphedby a 25 to 14 score, thus winning the Sectional Championship forthe second time in two years. With a record of seven straight wins, the Bloomingtonitesjourneyed back home to compete in the State Tournament. Inthe opening game, the Purple and White lost a scrappy game tothe fast Lebanon five. The team was in a poor condition to play, owing to the sickness of some of its members, but put up a gamefight and was defeated only in the last few minutes by a success-ion of long shots which found their way through the ring. The Bloomington rooters acquired a reputation all over thestate for showing absolute fairness and courtesy to the visitingteam and the referee.Probably the greatest credit for the seasons success shouldgo to Coach Montgomery. By constant effort, he produced aquintet which was called by opposing teams, the fastest and clean-est five in the state. The short-pass game was worked down tothe finer points, and team-work was exhibited which is seldomparalleled in high school basketball circles. The members of the team worked hard throughout the season. They played a clean, scrappy game, and even when defeat wascertain, fought to the finish. Although their average weight wasonly 127 pounds, so that they were often outweighed forty poundsto the man, a yellow-streak was never apparent: on the con-trary, they won more than one game in the last few minutes bypurely outfighting their opponents. The main weakness of thisyears five was the lack of a foul thrower. If the Bloomingtonteam had made half of its free throws in every game, the scorebook shows that only two games would have been lost during theentire season. With six out of seven men graduating this year, some of thefans see little hope for next season. The more thoughtful are notso pessimistic. They look back through the season and see howa team was developed this year. The memory of the 1915-16 teamwill always be cherished, not because it was the best team everturned out, but because it has proved that as long as there is agood coach and the proper spirit in the school, B. H. S. never needsuffer from lack of a good basketball team.VISITORS WININ HOT GAME.B. H. S.
