Description: 19 GOTHIC 16The 1915-16 Basketball SeasonWITH a record of fourteen games won and six lost, B. H. S.closed the most successful basketball season in the history ofthe school. Although the schedule was the hardest ever played, and although the team was severely handicapped by its small size,no game was lost by more than ten points, while several were wonby a forty or fifty point margin. With two of the best men of the star 1914-15 aggregation gone, and no good-sized players to fill their places, a universal idea seemedto exist that a team could not be produced which would parallel thevictories won in the preceding year. The season opened on November 12th, when a strong Alumniteam was played. The purple and white opened up with a world ofspeed and defeated their elders 30 to 24. The fans were pleasedwith the results, but the majority were still skeptical. On November20th the first interscholastic game was lost by a close margin to thestrong Kokomo quintet. On Thanksgiving came the jolt which caused the fans to realizethat Monty was developing a wonderful team. With Myers outof the game and a sub in the lineup, little hope was seen for a vic-tory. But the Bloomington five snatched a 26 to 25 over-time gamefrom the State Champions, Thorntown, in probably the most thrillingand best played game of basketball ever seen on the local floor. After Christmas the team started out with the determination towin. Up to the time of the tournament, ten more games were played, the Midgets winning eight of these. On March 10th the Bloomington five made their second tripto Bedford, this time to fight for sectional honors. On Fridaynight at 7:00 the Stone City was scheduled for the third time, inthe game which was doped to decide the Sectional Champion-ship. After a few trying minutes, the Purple and White brokeaway from the Bedfordites, and won an easy game.On the following day. Owensburg was taken into camp by alarge score. Salem beat New Albany by one point, thus earningthe right to meet Bloomington in the finals.B. H. S. WINSIN BASKET-BALL.Last night before a crowded gym-nasium and playing the badly crip-pled local team, Bedford handed thelocals the long end of a basketballscore of 21 to 13. In six consecutivecontests Bedford has vainly tried towin from the purple and white, andwith Myers ineligible and Wells outof the lineup because of recent in-juries, it looked optimistic for thevisitors. Enthusiasm was increasedamong the Bedford roofers when Eas-B. H. S.
