SEARCHING IN different directions, Panther cheerleadersSally Holtzman and Becky Young look for a Panthervictory.School SpiritPRACTICE SESSIONS, pep rallies, and games keptthe twelve girls chosen to represent both varsity andreserve cheerleaders busy two and three nights aweek. The cheerleaders work began last spring soonafter being chosen. About 50 girls tried out. The varsity began practicing for cheerleading camp in Vincennes, where they learned about the responsibilitiesof being cheerleaders, plus new pom pon routines,stunts, and new cheers. The varsity and reservesunited for a summer of practices where they polishedcheers and originated gimmicks to arouse Pantherpep. November brought on extra activities for thevarsity as they prepared to participate in a clinic atI.U. The squad placed third in their division. Bothgroups were supervised by a new sponsor, Mrs. JudyLucas, who worked with them at weekly practices.Besides cheering for football and basketball the cheerleaders added spirit to many different sports throughout the year.FINGERS CROSSED and hoping all over, Senior Susie Hetherington eyesa Panther spurt.RELIEVED FROM the games tensions at halftime, SeniorBecky Stapp leads the crowd in the school song.WITH A victory on its way, Panther-girl Kay Terry signals victory.w |
