Description: |
The teeming or pouring of steel. By operating the automatic control, shown at left, a pourer at U.S. Steels Gary Steel Works opens and closes the nozzle of a big 250-ton ladle of molten steel to fill the ingot mold beneath it. The big ladle was just filled from a tapped open hearth. After all of the ingot molds have been filled, they will be taken to the stripper building where the molds will be removed. The ingot will then be brought to the soaking pit, or re-heating furnace, and readied for rolling on the rolling mills. |
