On back of photograph: About 1930. This picture shows Mr. E. F. Swinney, President and Chairman of the Board of the First National Bank in Kansas City on the extreme left holding his Hereford heifer which he had just presented to the FFA member from Butler, Missouri, who had the first prize Hereford steer in the show. Mr. Swinney was also treasurer of the American Hereford Association for a number of years. He also owned a farm near Kansas City where he raised Hereford cattle. In the center with his hand on the heifer is J. C. Swift, President of Swift and Henry Commission Company, Kansas City Livestock Exchange and also President of the Americans Royal Livestock Show. Mr. Swift was an excellent speaker, attending many FFA banquets throughout the middle west and was indeed an outstanding supporter of the FFA in the early years.The FFA exhibitor of the first prize Hereford steer is from Butler, Missouri. |
