| Description: |
etching and aquatint. Edition of 25. The many tragedies befalling Iraq during its history, especially the last decades and decade, a crusade called by a US president, i.e., a Christian nation invading a Muslim one, resulting in the last Jews having left that country since, now also the last Christians being targeted while two major Muslim sects fight and destroy each other, is very disturbing. The donated image symbolizes peace between the three, from Judaism a derived world, monotheistic religions, using The Visitation, the visit of Mary with Elizabeth as recorded in the Gospel of Luke, to do so. A literal translation of the horrible event, the bombing of al-Mutanabbi Street, is not what my art is about. But the image included certainly symbolizes what is going on in that tragic country, and tragic part of the world. Peace between world religions is what first came to my mind reading about the project...I love the universal image of the Visitation, transcending Christianity, the handshake/embrace reaching out to all |
