Letter from Arnold G. Fischer to Jesse Dorsey, December 22, 1942.

Description: Fischer is glad that Dorsey is out of the hospital. He plans to very busy in the next six months as the rainy season will be over. He received his commission as a Warrant Officer as a marine gunner. He has to get 2 more Warrant grades before he gets a raise in pay. He laments all the boys leaving from home and is glad he has been in the service so long. He has heard about how well the boys are doing in the Pacific and wishes he could help. He hopes that by this time next year the world will be at peace.This letter is part of a large group of letter written to or by Jesse G. Dorsey during World War II. Dorsey ran the community house for the Louisville Cement Company in Speed, Indiana. Being a veteran of World War I, he knew the value of providing support to the troops. He wrote letters and sent the company newsletter (Speedometer) to several hundred service men and women during the war. The community house also hosted weekend parties for soldiers from Fort Knox, Kentucky during the war.
