Letter from Lester I. Adams to Jesse Dorsey, October 5, 1944.

Description: Adams thanks Dorsey for the letter and Speedometer. He writes this letter while on fire watch. The weather has been very rainy and it is nearing deer hunting season. The WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) are taking over many office jobs so he expects to be transferred soon. His Commander has been appointed the rank if Commodore.This letter is part of a large group of letter written to or by Jesse G. Dorsey during World War II. Dorsey ran the community house for the Louisville Cement Company in Speed, Indiana. Being a veteran of World War I, he knew the value of providing support to the troops. He wrote letters and sent the company newsletter (Speedometer) to several hundred service men and women during the war. The community house also hosted weekend parties for soldiers from Fort Knox, Kentucky during the war.
