Thanks to Dorsey’s help, Renn was able to visit with Bob Brooks. He spent several weeks in Berlin and wishes he could have seen it before it was bombed. He saw Bob Hope and Jerry Colonna in the Berlin theater. After Berlin, his division spent five days traveling and sleeping in the open in the rain. He sends a “Hell on Wheels” and 2nd Armored Division patch for Dorsey’s collection.This letter is part of a large group of letter written to or by Jesse G. Dorsey during World War II. Dorsey ran the community house for the Louisville Cement Company in Speed, Indiana. Being a veteran of World War I, he knew the value of providing support to the troops. He wrote letters and sent the company newsletter (Speedometer) to several hundred service men and women during the war. The community house also hosted weekend parties for soldiers from Fort Knox, Kentucky during the war. |
