Letter from Edward J. Herbst to Jesse Dorsey, October 20, 1943.

Description: Herbst writes on United States Corps of Engineers stationary. He is sending his new address. He was sent to the University of Nebraska to take an engineering course. They rushed the program so it’s really tough. He has physics, chemistry, algebra, trig, English, geography, and history. He likes being in the heart of the city with everything so close. There are lots of dances for the soldiers. Bob Deich is there but in more advanced classes. This letter is part of a large group of letter written to or by Jesse G. Dorsey during World War II. Dorsey ran the community house for the Louisville Cement Company in Speed, Indiana. Being a veteran of World War I, he knew the value of providing support to the troops. He wrote letters and sent the company newsletter (Speedometer) to several hundred service men and women during the war. The community house also hosted weekend parties for soldiers from Fort Knox, Kentucky during the war.
