Letter from William E. Bedell to Jesse Dorsey, September 25, 1944.

Description: Bedell writes about the sports teams on the base and the weather. He is grateful that the hurricane did not hit their base. The skipper is cutting back on leave so he does not think he will get home for another 6 months. His group has had many flight hours lately and he believes they will be moving out the first of the year. This letter is part of a large group of letter written to or by Jesse G. Dorsey during World War II. Dorsey ran the community house for the Louisville Cement Company in Speed, Indiana. Being a veteran of World War I, he knew the value of providing support to the troops. He wrote letters and sent the company newsletter (Speedometer) to several hundred service men and women during the war. The community house also hosted weekend parties for soldiers from Fort Knox, Kentucky during the war.
