Description: |
Two men indentified as Vander Meer and Lomb[ard] stand in field with baseball mitts. Lightly written underneath are Black[man] and John Smith. The man on the left wears an Indianapolis baseball jersey and an Indianapolis Fire Department logo can be seen on his sleeve. This is part of a sub-series of photos in the Nellie Farabee Kevekordes Maish collection that includes several men posing with baseball equipment. These men were likely part of a recreational team sponsored by Walter Maishs bar/cafe, Cafe Elite, on West Morris Street. There is evidence that the team were called The Barflies. |
