List of colored persons who have emigrated from the State of Indiana to the colony of Liberia West Africa

Description: List of the free Black Americans in Indiana who emigrated to the colony of Liberia. Information given includes date of departure, name, age, place of residence, ship, ship captain, location of departure, destination, and a few miscellaneous notes.
The Indiana State Board of Colonization was formed in 1852 through a law passed by the General Assembly. The board was in charge of appropriating funds, collecting fines for Article 13 violations, and collecting voluntary contributions to purchase land in Liberia for Indiana emigrants. Since Article 13 prohibited Black Americans from settling in the state, the emigrants listed resided in Indiana before the adoption of Indianas 1851 Constitution. The title listed above is the official title given by the State Board of Colonization.
