Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the Miami Coal Company, Indiana farmers, and the Cuban alcohol monopoly. It also includes job requests and recommendations, a memo suggesting potential reforms for the Indiana state government, and a copy of a speech Hays delivered to the Association of American Business.
