Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about Black Hawk Coal Corporation stock purchases, the Roosevelt Memorial Association, and the status of the Motion Picture Production Code. It also includes a letter about the countrys farm problem, a memo to the staff of C.W. Young & Co. about the recession, and extracts from a speech entitled The Illness of Uncle Sam and the Efforts made to cure him. |
