Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the American Potash Company, an upcoming meeting to negotiate a new Uniform Exhibition contract, and an annual report of the Cain Corporation. It also includes daily reports for Hays, minutes and a report from a Directors and Foreign Managers Meeting, a memo about the budget for the MPPDAs Special Education program, a memo about the Copyright Protection Bureau, and a letter from Sidney Kent of Paramount Pictures to Al Steffes of Allied States Association of Motion Picture Exhibitors about industry problems and the current state of the relationship between producers and exhibitors. |
