Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about a conference to be given by the Federal Motion Picture Council in America, Hollywood Screen Star Fashions Inc., a group of Rhodes Scholars from West Point, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation, and J. Homer Plattens impending resignation as Treasurer of the MPPDA. It also includes letters referencing a set of photographs from Hays recent vacation in Wyoming and letters of congratulations from Hays to various politicians and others involved in the Republican Party as well as their replies. |
