Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the Association of Motion Picture Producers and the airline industry. It also includes thank you notes for Christmas greetings, New Year messages, and a report by the Citizens League of Maryland for Better Motion Pictures about the need for federal regulation of the film industry.
