Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the Federal Trade Commission, the Indiana Lincoln Memorial, and an issue between a couple of union workers and Sam Goldwyn. It also includes a copy of a contract for a construction company in Indiana and a letter discussing recent industry business including labor unions, new hires, and a Shakespeare Memorial. |
