Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Hardings presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about labor unions in Hollywood and the political situation including a copy of a memo for Hoover about dealing with the opposing candidate. It also includes minutes from a meeting of newsreel editors and a memo about censor boards and the treatment of language synchronized with motion pictures. |
