Wakarusa Railroad Station, 1967. Donors Notes:Wakarusa Railroad Station taken in 1967. Built when the railroad went through (Montpelier & Chicago) in 1893. Still has a part-time traveling operator agent five days a week. Passenger service discontinued in late 1930s. The line became Wabash late in 1890s, then Norfolk and Western when merged in 1966 This line ran a fine Chicago to Detroit night train when a sleeper from South Bend to Detroit. Car came down to Pine Junction on New Jersey, Indiana & Illinois from South Bend and was tied into by the Detroit Express. Handled a heavy Studebaker trade.; Wakarusa Railroad Station |
