Description: |
A letter to Mother Mary Lecor after the Sisters have settled at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Mother Theodore explains how they had been compelled to wear secular clothes instead of the religious habit at times during their journey to Indiana, and she gives her frank and explicit opinions of Monseigneur de la Hailandière, Father Buteax, the French Sisters, and the postulants awaiting them in Indiana. She describes their living situation, the purchase of the house and some property, and marvels at the low cost of food. Dated November 14, 1840. |
