Camp near Triune [Tenn]June 12th /63Dear Father.having received your letter of the 31st was once more glad to here that all was well athome. We are well we have left our nice camp on Stewarts Creek and are now a little nearer tothe rebels. They commenced driving our pickets yesterday. When we was rushed out in line tomeet them. they gave back and we had no fite. Our cavelry and the rebles had a scermish theother day some few got there lights knocked out but not many. we do some large Drilling now.yesterday we had Brigade drill which consisted of five regiments. The other day our holeDivision was out on the field it takes a very large drill ground for five [page break] [fragment ofpage missing] and so many batteries [fragment of page missing] to every brigade and [fragmentof page missing] squad of cavelry. There is no prospect of us staying here long. We are undermarching orders now and no not what hour we will leave. We have ben haveing some rainwithin the last few days which makes camp life more pleasant. lays the dust and cools the air.we pay 40 cts for old eggs by the dozen. and 40[?] or 50 cts for butter 25 cts a pice[?—piece?]for [illegible—cornmeal?] pies and other things in proportion. I shal have to close for thepresent.
