Description: Stuarts Creek Tenn may 7/63Dear friendsI have been awaiting a letter from home but still none comes. I recieved two letters fromhome during the last month both came at once, I would like to hear from home each week. We are asanxious to hear from home as you are to hear from us. Please dont forget us.We have been paid again my pay now is one hundred and thirty dollars per month. I did notsend any home as I thought unless[eszett?] you had a place to put it I might just as well keep it here Iloaned out $60 bought a watch for $30 I have the best watch in the Regt after getting some clothingsetling up my servants and grub bill I have a hundred dollars on hand which I will keep on hand unlessyou want it.Yesterday I sent Billy to Nashville to get his picture and other things he [page break] wanted. hereturns tomorrow morning. We are all in fine health my weight is now 170lbs Billy looks better thanever you saw him as you will say when you see his picture. his face is red and flush not pale and ashy aswhen at home. If you was not so busy I would like for your to come and see us. If you have time tocom, come and I will pay all expenses it would be a great satisfaction for mother to have you come andsee us. I will send Jacob home at furst opportunity. My company is now sixty six men for duty only twoothers in the Regt larger and none better. I have good and fine discipline no trouble or hard feelingexists in the company. We have fine weather and nice camp and if we remain here much longer I thinkwe will stay till we quit soldiering. Our boys have a good time swimming and fishing as the creek passesdirectly through our lines. [page break] We have not been troubled any by scouting rebels for some timepast. but we dont know when they may dash in upon us and give us something to do.I have not heard from the over coats I sent yet one for myself one for Billy and one for Ab Smith.Lieut Jones has been for the last month commanding Co I. but yesterday returned to the company now Ihave my help again, Lieut Smith is with me though is excused from duty in the company, and is ProvostMarhal [Marshal] for the RegtI have had no word from Uncle Abe for a long time. we have good news from Hooker in Virginia.I would like to hear from you oftener as we get very hingry for a letter from home before it gets hereDont forget the boys in the army,Your trio boysVery respectfullyThomas A. I dont want to come home till you get your new house done, not that I am asshamed of theold one only I want to see your comfortable and mother satisfied and all cheerful and happy, dont fretabout us we are cheerful and doing fine as long as we remain here. just forget that we are here onlywhen you write and let that be once a week at least.
