From a post card view taken in or around late 1907. The then newly completed Farmers State Bank Building (now the Heflin Building) is at the left. Two smoke stacks in upper left are of the THI&E interurban power house. At extreme left and above bank building is bell tower of fire department. Water stand pipe is near upper center of photo. In background is the Centenary Methodist Episcopal Church, razed in 1963. Between church and bank is a two story house that in its last years housed Ivory C. Tolles undertaking business. Next north a one story residence is shown. Both houses were torn down in the teens when Al Hogshire built a two story business building in which Montgomery War is now located. (In 1969).Storefronts on Main Street include the M. R. Voorhis harness shop and a piano store. |
