This diary written by Adolph Mueller records his experiences during the time he served in World War I. It begins on April 3, 1918 when he enters the U. S. Army in New York state. Adolph F. Mueller was born in Indianapolis on January 27, 1896 to John Mueller and Caroline (Schroeder) Resner Mueller. He attended Manual Training High School in Indianapolis. He was living in Crawfordsville, Indiana and was a student at Wabash College when he registered for the draft in 1917. Mueller served in the 3rd Battalion, 43rd Artillery in southern France during WWI. After the war he taught school in Noblesville, Indiana and later worked for an insurance company in Evansville. The diary measures 3 inches wide by 5 inches high and thin enough to slip into a shirt pocket. The front cover shows the logo for the YMCA which most likely distributed these small journals to service men to take with him as they began their service. Diary 1 is black in color and diary 2 has a brown cover. The pages are unlined and not every page is filled. There are several pages that are blank. Diary 1 is most fragile with pages separated from the spine. |
