Description: |
An image showing the damage to the Stauss Hotel of Jeffersonville, Indiana, after being hit by a tornado on March 27, 1890. The scene depicts in the front left, a covered van with two horses, a horse wagon marked with the words Express being pulled by one horse. Both vehicles were used to bring people to the scene and for carrying away goods that had survived. There are 8 men or boys standing around on the street level. In the background are two buildings. The one to the left appears to have very little damage other than some smashed windows. The Stauss Hotel on the right has had the outer front wall torn away, along with part of the roof. A few load bearing room walls still stand and it looks like there is some debris in the rooms, but no signs of furniture. |
