334. Women shopping Court Avenue

Description: This image shows a street scene in the late 1880s or early 1890s. The street is Court Avenue on the west side of Spring Street. On the right hand side of the image the trolley is at Stop 13. A passenger is boarding the trolley. Behind the trolley, businesses and home homes line the street. The two buildings in the middle are most likely mercantile establishments with goods needed by women or a family based on the large numbers of women entering and leaving the two stores. The tall building on the left side of the image has people walking by it, but not entering. Two stories above the street a woman looks out of the open window. The clothing worn by the women include walking dresses with leg o mutton sleeves, waist jackets, full skirts, and high top boots. There are a few men in the crowd.
