The Democratic Party paper was started in 1838 by James Seal, Jr, and Charles Cake. The print shop was destroyed by fire in 1852 and purchased by Cyrus Bentley. Bentley would be elected as county auditor during the Civil War, a conflict boycotted by the publication, which declared that there was No North, no South, no East, no West, under the Constitution; but a sacred maintenance of the common bond and true devotion to the common brotherhood. Bentley sold the paper to Nathan Carr, and the title survived through several owners into modern era. Weekly |
