According to History of Huntington County, Indiana, 1914: A Narrative Account of Its Historical Progress, Its People, and Its Principal Interests, Balthasar (Baltzer) Eisenhauer was born 4 September 1835 in Birgengoerdt, Rheinpholtz, Germany. His parents were John Michael and Catharine (Engel) Eisenhauer. He came to the United States of America when he was eighteen years old. After working in and around New York City, he moved to Frederick, Maryland and married Theresa Holtzinger, together they raised four children. In 1862 they traveled with his brother Joseph west and he settled in Huntington, Indiana. Eisenhauer had many different business ventures, and in 1883 he helped organize First National Bank. Owning land on North Poplar Street at the corner of Poplar and George he built his home. In 1900 he retired from the bank but continued to be influential in Huntington. Mr. Eisenhauer succumbed to heart troubles and died 19 November 1910. |
