Description: |
Marion County was formed in 1821 to be the seat of Indiana’s capital and was named after Revolutionary War General Francis Marion. When Marion County was being founded, all three judicial branches; the local trial court, the Indiana Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court, shared the county’s first court house. The picture shows the front of the court house with a cupola on top. There is a small path leading up to the front door of the building and there are trees on either side of the building. The building was constructed 1823-1824 and torn down in 1870.Source: Bodenhamer and Barrows, “The Encyclopedia of Indianapolis”, 1994. |
