Description: |
The old Odd Fellows Building, constructed during the 1850s, was located on the northeast corner of Pennsylvania and Washington Streets in Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition to serving as the Indiana Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the building also offered office space for business including a bank on the ground floor. Due to their growing membership, the Odd Fellows voted to demolish their building in order to construct a new, larger skyscraper. In 1907, the old Odd Fellows Building was torn down and construction began on a new structure. The new Grand Lodge, designed by architects Rubush & Hunter, was the tallest building in Indiana at the time of its construction. In this photograph, the Lodge and surrounding buildings appear to be decorated for a celebration. |
