Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge reconstruction

Description: Photograph of the 1916-1919 reconstruction of the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge spanning the Ohio River between Louisville, Ky. and Clarksville, Ind. The original iron bridge was completed in 1870. The reconstruction project replaced the old structure with a stronger double-track steel superstructure placed on the original masonry piers. The view is from the Kentucky side looking upriver. Seen in the photo are five people swimming in the river and, faintly visible under the bridge, the Big Four Railroad Bridge.
