Starting to the photos left can be seen Louisville, Ky., a barge in the Portland canal approaching the McAlpine locks (partially visible in the upper left), Shippingport Island, the Ohio, the hydroelectric dam and downriver section of the Z-shaped McAlpine Dam, and the white exposed fossil beds of the Falls of the Ohio in the lower right. Clarksville, Ind. is to the right of the photo, but not visible.
