William was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base and then Keesler Air Force Base. He attended a 6 month course in Radio Operation. His fiancé Moneta Reardon visited him. He is more interested in art and tells about his sign shop back home in Sellersburg. He did not make it as a radio operator. He is transferred to Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix where he has to serve as a dining hall attendant. He feels misplaced but not second guessing the military. He gets transferred to the Sign Shop and is excited. He discusses the base and the weather. This letter is part of the Jesse G. Dorsey Korean War Correspondence collection. Dorsey was the Director of Recreation and Welfare and editor of the Speed-O-Meter newsletter for the Louisville Cement Company. Dorsey began sending monthly letters and the Speed-O-Meter to local service personnel during WWII. He continued this through the Korean War and for sometime afterwards. |
