Korean War Letter from William E. Woods to Jesse G. Dorsey 17 Dec 1950

Description: Bill tells Jesse he is very glad to receive a letter even though he knows it is a lot of work. He is surprised to hear of some of his friends who have enlisted. He thought he was going to get out of the Navy in July but does not believe so anymore. He is on the USS Cavalier which left the United States in April bound for Japan to train soldiers in landing. They did one non-practice landing with the 1st Calvary at Phong Po-Hong-Dong. They traveled between Japan and Korea. In November, they went to San Diego for their dry dock period. Bill has leave time coming up and hopes to see some Silver Creek basketball games. This letter is part of the Jesse G. Dorsey Korean War Correspondence collection. Dorsey was the Director of Recreation and Welfare and editor of the Speed-O-Meter newsletter for the Louisville Cement Company. Dorsey began sending monthly letters and the Speed-O-Meter to local service personnel during WWII. He continued this through the Korean War and for sometime afterwards.
