Guernsey Store ledger, Henryville, Indiana 1863-1872

Description:	This item is part of a larger collection of items from the Elam B. Guernsey Family Collection. This ledger belonged to Elam B. Guernsey who ran a general store in Henryville, Indiana. The store was located on the east side of the railroad tracks on what is now Penn Street. In the 1800s before Henryville was platted, that road and Main Street were part of Salem-Charlestown Road which was one of two roads between Salem and Charlestown. The dates in the ledger range from 1863 to 1872. There is a variety of listings in the book including invoice of stock taken, copies of accounts from other ledgers, notes due Dietz and Guernsey, notes due E.B. Guernsey, and stock in trade. These listings are not in date order. Most of the book is inventory lists that include quantity and price of all items in the store at the beginning of the year. This store sold everything from coffin screws to medicines to school books. The first 24 pages have been cut from the ledger. Blank pages were not scanned.
